{"id":41,"date":"2018-05-23T13:40:25","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T13:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hic-preprod.nihr.ac.uk\/?page_id=41"},"modified":"2025-02-27T09:48:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T09:48:16","slug":"themes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hic.nihr.ac.uk\/themes","title":{"rendered":"Themes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The development of the NIHR HIC capability has focused on key therapeutic areas, chosen for their importance to patients and the NHS and also for the different challenges that they present in terms of data quality and availability:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>COVID-19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cardiovascular medicine (formerly acute coronary syndromes)<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>critical care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ovarian cancer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>renal disease (formerly renal transplantation)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>viral hepatitis and liver disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cancer: breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate <\/span>  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">infectious diseases<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hearing health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>musculoskeletal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>myeloma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>patient blood management and perioperative care (PBMPC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>transfusion dependent anaemias<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>diabetes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>children&#8217;s surgery outcomes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addressing data quality and availability in these areas, the NIHR HIC partners have been able to build upon work by the following organisations:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hepatitis C Virus Research UK (HCV UK)<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project (MINAP)<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN)<\/span> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UK Research Reserve (UKRR)<\/span>  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloomsbury institute of Intensive Care Medicine (BiICM)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Myeloma UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In each theme, clinicians, scientists, and informaticians from the partner organisations work together to deliver the NIHR HIC capability &#8211; the data flows and the governance framework &#8211; and to demonstrate that capability through exemplar research studies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each of the themes is led by a different university-hospital partnership:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hic.nihr.ac.uk\/covid\">COVID-19<\/a>, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NIHR HIC Cardiovascular Medicine Theme has been leading on a data collaboration to allow cardiovascular questions to be answered in relation to COVID-19.
