{"id":59,"date":"2018-05-23T13:48:56","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T13:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hic-preprod.nihr.ac.uk\/?page_id=59"},"modified":"2022-03-10T10:10:02","modified_gmt":"2022-03-10T10:10:02","slug":"infection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hic.nihr.ac.uk\/infectious-diseases","title":{"rendered":"Infectious Diseases"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hic.nihr.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hic-infection.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-192\" width=\"300\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The existing NIHR HIC Viral Hepatitis theme has been extended to take advantage of strategic opportunities for collaboration, impact, and benefit, and to build on a range of existing NIHR, NHS, and Public Health England (PHE) investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aims of the NIHR HIC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This NIHR HIC theme is focussing on infectious diseases of particular relevance to NHS infection control and PHE strategy, with a focus on sepsis and anti-microbial resistance, including E. coli, K. pneumoniae, S. aureus, Tuberculosis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and C. difficile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of initial interest is E. Coli infections and the antibiotic prescribing practice to inpatients, at the NHS Acute Trusts involved to help enable research and improve clinical practice in this area. A better understanding of the relationship between antibiotic use and resistance is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lead centres:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust&nbsp;<\/li><li>Guy&#8217;s &amp; St Thomas&#8217; Hospital NHS Foundation Trust<\/li><li>Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust&nbsp;<\/li><li>Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust<\/li><li>University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital Alerting for Sepsis (DiAlS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NIHR HIC are supporting a new study to&nbsp;review the impact of a digital alert system to monitor patients with sepsis at NHS hospitals. The Digital Alerting for Sepsis (DiAlS) project sets out to explore \u201cHow effective is the introduction of digital alerts in terms of improving outcomes of patients with sepsis?\u201d with four key objectives: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMap the digital alerts currently in use in multiple UK hospitals to identify patients at risk of\nhaving sepsis\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEvaluate the impact of digital alerts on outcomes for patients at risk of sepsis\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExplore the implementation of digital alerts across contexts and the impact of these on digital\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talert performance.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMake recommendations on the effectiveness of different digital alerts and the most effective\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmethod of implementation.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A full summary of the Digital Alerting for Sepsis (DiAlS) project is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/school-public-health\/primary-care-and-public-health\/research\/global-digital-health\/research\/dials\/\">here.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research is led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/school-public-health\/primary-care-and-public-health\/research\/global-digital-health\/\">Global Digital Health unit<\/a> based in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London.&nbsp; The team will collaborate with the Oxford University NHS trust, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, University College London, Reading and Berkshire NHS Trust, and the University of Cardiff, and is supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/sepsistrust.org\/\">UK Sepsis trust<\/a> and the NIHR HIC. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The existing NIHR HIC Viral Hepatitis theme has been extended to take advantage of strategic opportunities for collaboration, impact, and benefit, and to build on a range of existing NIHR, NHS, and Public Health England (PHE) investments.
