Datasets and tools
If you are interested in conducting research and want to find out more information about the NIHR HIC data resource, you can visit the relevant page on the NIHR’s Health Data Finder for Research, which provides high-level descriptions and characteristics of the data used for the original five NIHR HIC themes.
Data used by researchers will be de-identified – names, addresses, NHS numbers, specific dates – will be removed, unless there is explicit ethical and legal approval to do otherwise.
The NIHR HIC works with the information governance teams within each of the participating trusts to ensure that patient information is managed in accordance with NHS and Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) guidelines.
How to work with NIHR HIC centres and themes
If you are a researcher and are interested in working with NIHR HIC centres or themes, please contact the relevant centre using the contacts page. NIHR HIC datasets are not currently available to researchers outside of the NIHR HIC; however it may be possible to establish new collaborations.
The Health Data Finder
The Health Data Finder for Research provides more general information for the preparation needed before submitting a request for access to health data.
